What is Hyde Park Square?
The neighborhood's center: a green with the Kilgour Fountain, ringed by shops, cafes and restaurants. The fountain was donated in 1900 and restored in 2003, and the Hyde Park Farmers Market sets up on the square on Sunday mornings from May through October. The American Planning Association named Hyde Park one of its Great Places in America.
What kinds of homes are in Hyde Park?
Mostly early 1900s houses: Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, Victorian and Classical, on tree-lined streets, plus condos and apartments. Prices run from condos in the $200,000s to houses well over $2 million. Some older houses are torn down and replaced, so you will see new construction mixed in.
A 100-year-old house needs a real inspection: foundation, roof, electrical, sewer line. Read Should you waive the inspection? before you compete for one.
